Money Coming to Lycoming County to Help Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday, Say Flick and Hamm
June 18, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) and Rep. Joe Hamm (R-Lycoming/Union) together announced the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce is receiving $20,000 from America250PA as part of its Semiquincentenntial Grants.
The grant will go toward restoration of a Pennsylvania Railroad sleeper-lounge car.
“As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I’m proud to support efforts that showcase everything Lycoming County has to offer,” said Flick, a member of the House Tourism, Recreation and Economic Development Committee. “Resorting a historic railcar not only honors our past, but it also invites people to visit, learn and invest in our future.”
“Congratulations to the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce upon receiving a Semiquincentennial Grant from America250PA,” Hamm said. “Lycoming County has a strong connection to our Country’s Founding as the Fair Play Men met beneath the Tiadaghton Elm on July 4, 1776 to make their own declaration of independence from Britain,” Hamm said. “This project will continue that tradition dating back to the birth of our Great Nation.”
America250PA provided the money to support educational, civic and celebratory events and programming to enhance Pennsylvania’s celebration of the United States’ 250th birthday in 2026.
Demands for grants were high with 440 applicants requesting more than $6 million.
